She sings as if beginning a tale: one of a woman born from a Lotus, whose heart was broken but has now “found her focus,” lines from the introductory song to “Chilombo.”Īiko then takes us on a trip down memory lane, singing “Stranger” and “Do Better Blues,” songs from her 2011 Sailing Soul(s) mixtape. Drawing circles at the edges of the singing bowls, she prompts us to listen, drawing our auditory attention to the ethereal tone (like one would tell an audience to quiet down). This is the first sound we hear at the beginning of Aiko’s Tiny Desk home concert, hosted by NPR, before the video reveals Aiko in a stunning blue gown, barefoot, surrounded by a variety of instruments. In the episode with Elle, Aiko plays a crystal singing bowl in the key of C, explaining that the sound helps balance the root chakra, and that one can only play it if they are of pure heart. Following the performance she wrote on Instagram, “In 2020 i can not WAIT to do more immersive sound bath experiences for you guys 🙏🏼 color therapy + aromatherapy + sound healing + modern mantra + conscious breathing = an experience of a lifetime. The performance included Aiko’s song “ Trigger Protection Mantra,” a six minute sound meditation she dropped in September 2019 that included alchemy crystal singing bowls played by Aiko, who described the notes as “in the key of A (third eye), E (solar plexus) and C (root chakra).”Īiko (who recently revealed herself as a double Pisces sun and moon with Sagittarius rising), plans to continue to create calming music and also wants to take her Wisdome.LA performance on the road.
Los Angeles’ own Jhené Aiko continues to place an emphasis on creating music themed on healing with the releases of a visual documenting a concert titled “Modern Mantra Immersive Sound Healing Experience,” a performance that took place on Novemat Wisdome.LA, an immersive art entertainment park located in Downtown Los Angeles.
